Airgain Introduces the A2475 Smart Antenna for WLAN Access Points, Routers and Gateways

The A2475 Ministar smart antenna utilizes patented beam forming technology to provide increased wireless range and faster throughput

Carlsbad, CA, September 26, 2005 — Airgain, Inc., a developer of high-performance smart antenna solutions for the WLAN market, today announced the commercial availability of its A2475 Smart Antenna for the home WLAN market. The A2475 is an embedded smart antenna solution that utilizes patented beam forming technology to deliver up to 300 percent greater signal strength and receive sensitivity than conventional antenna solutions. When integrated into access point, router and gateway products, the A2475 provides faster throughput, reduced dead spots, and increased wireless range compared to traditional Wireless-G networks.

The A2475 smart antenna's unprecedented antenna gain and coverage pattern is derived by combining the benefits of multiple antenna beams with rapid automatic antenna switching. It features 15 individual antenna beams that provide superior horizontal and vertical coverage optimized for use in multi-story homes and offices. The use of multiple antenna beams significantly reduces interference with neighboring networks, improving the performance of both the network it is connected to and adjacent networks. The complete antenna sub-subsystem can be easily integrated into existing form factors, eliminating the need for external antennas and ports while providing superior performance at a comparable cost to conventional antenna components.

"In today's WLAN market, there is a high demand for smart antenna solutions that can increase range and throughput without adding cost," said Glenn Selbo, vice president of sales and marketing for Airgain. "Our flexible and innovative A2475 smart antenna delivers up to twice the coverage of conventional antenna solutions and meets the performance, quality, and cost needs of original equipment manufacturers serving the mass market."

The A2475 Smart Antenna is compatible with all 802.11 b/g standard equipment and is available on multiple chip set platforms. It requires access to a parallel 6-pin connector to drive the high performance antenna steering and is available for use with either an MMCX connector or 3" RG178 cable with U.FL. The A2475 Smart Antenna is available now to OEM and ODM customers at prices comparable to current dipole antenna solutions, with volume shipments expected beginning in early 2006.
